My apologies to my liberal relatives and the rest of you liberals too

When I wrote the article about the impact of illegal aliens, I did it in a liberal type fashion with my feelings instead of facts.  Since then I have been doing research and have some facts that .....strangely enough, back up my feelings.
$914,062,800 in 1997. This is the bad debt that county hospitals had to eat (I mean you and I tax payers had to eat) for 1997.
$18,838,727 was spent on health care to prisoners in 1998 in Texas.  Again we tax payers picked up the ticket.  $28.6 billion was spent on education in 2001-2002 in Texas for illegal aliens and us born children of illegal aliens.  This would equate to $14.3 billion per year.

So  far we have  picked up the cost of $15,232,901,527.  If this is a flatline number each year since 1997, and we estimate only 15% is due to the illegal aliens, this is still over $250,000,000 per year.  I'm sure that we have nothing better to do with $250,000,000 per year than give it over to illegal aliens.  We have 50 states and if each state only has 1/4 of the cost that Texas incurs, the number looks like this:  $3,312,500,000

This is a strange thought, if 50,000 a year come into Texas, why don't we give them $5,000 per year to stay in mexico.  It's probably more than they make there and they could just stay in retirement....we could put an addendum on it that they have to enforce the Mexican side of the border.  As people get across, we stop payment on one of the "retirees" for each new illegal that gets through.

What did you think of this article?

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone up here that considers me a liberal, but I really think you need to back up your numbers with some citations. It would also help to specify which of your numbers are particular to TX and which are federal. I'm left having to assume that the 15 trillion is federally since 1997, but how do you attribute that number specifically to illegals?

I googled up state numbers for Texas and its only 15 billion per year. These are all numbers provided by the state. I estimated that about 4 billion was the cost on each of the other 49 states, with the exception of alaske and hawaii. too far to swim across to get there.

It is a sad thing to see the financial figures that correspond to the funds that are attributable to illegal alien use of our institutions. I just wish there was more being done to fix things in their homeland, not just a fence that says "Stay Out" or border patrol that is not always on the up and up. Perhaps there is more going on behind the scenes than we know about, but what is our government doing to make Mexico's government fix things on their own land so its citizens want to stay in their own country? The US government sure does not mind getting into other country's business and telling them how they should run things. We do not mind telling Palestine or Iraq or Iran or North Korea a thing or two. Sure, the US government "butts-in" so to speak when they are trying to protect the US from possible terrorist activity. But why not try to push for more change in Mexico, rather than just kicking the illegals out and building a fence. IF things are not better where they live, Mexicans will still come into our country. Some people might argue that it is not our problem. But it is. If they have a decent country to live in, where the poor were not stuck in that cycle of poverty and the rich were just getting richer by the day, then perhaps the illegals would not want to come here and burden our system. Maybe some more measures should be taken to make changes on Mexican soil. That being said, the US government might be doing a whole lot more than we know about to "fix" Mexico. It just might not be violent or stupid enough to make the evening news!

It is estimated that the illegals here are sendint back to mexico $55 billion from the us. With the $100 billion plus we are paying for and the $55 billion they send home, why would the govt of mexico want to cough up $155 billion a year to keep them there? They may have to stop skimming the coffers and actually make some changes to improve the situation in mexico.
