A More Than Convenient Truth
There is a huge Artificially induced panic over the global warming and man's contribution to it, especially the American man. Supposedly, man is the primary cause of 1 degree rise in the average daily temperature over the last 100 years. What Mr. Gore and others fail to bring up is the fact that the temperature on the surface of Mars is also going up. I don't believe the Mars Rover is an SUV. There are rumors that the huge yellow orb that appears daily in our sky may have something to do with both warming events.
The scientists that study nothing but weather and climate are of the opinion that man's contribution to the current rise in earth's temperature is almost insignificant. When Mt. St. Helens erupted, it dumped more dirt, ash and greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere in 2 days that all the SUVs on earth combined. The pseudo scientists that are pushing for a panic are after two things, money and power....It is beyond me how Al Gore can say he lives a carbon neutral life style with his 20,000 sq ft mansion, heated pool, and private jet, etc. etc. etc because he is paying for carbon credits to a "green company" that he owns. The money he pays himself is supposed to counteract the 150 gallon per minute fuel consumption of his private jet during take-off and the 90 gal per minute consumption during the "effecient" part of his flights. His electrical bill at his house is about 18 to 20 times that amount a normal house would consume.
The earth can clean up after man, and has for millions of years. Other than fossils and some skeletal remains, If man went extinct the earth would bearly notice he was ever here. I don't think that many of the pseudo scientists recall the mini- Ice Age the earth went through back in the times of the BLACK DEATH of the plague that struck Europe. Europe was primarily a grain producing and consumption type society. When the mini Ice Age hit, they couldn't produce enough grain for bread. The summer season was just too short and cold to produce grain, except in the extreme southern parts of Europe. People stayed indoors much longer because it was cold and because of this the fleas that carried the plague had a field day spreading it. This little Ice Age lasted almost 300 years. Its very easy to say that the earth will no longer be able to support life in another 150 years unless we stop this - start that- give them money - bla- bla- bla-. They nor we will be around in another 150 years to prove them right or wrong. They should gather real data instead of the "I think" type of science they employ now. I can't believe that barring the last 100 years, the fossil fuel burning of coal, wood, dung, straw that was the primary heating and cooking process of everyone in the world (even in the Mini Ice Age) had no effect on the climate.
The annual (or almost annual) fires in the western part of the US have to be putting enormous amounts of greenhouse gasses into the air. Where is this in the contribution to global warming list? Where are the volcanoes in the global warming list? Where is the data on the Methane provided to the atmosphere from the dogs, cats, hares, rabbits, coons, oppossum, deer, polar bear, grizzley bears, brown bears, black bears, goats, sheep, lions, tigers, elephants, Koala, Kangaroos, wallabes, hyena, gnu, .....get the picture? Where is the total data and why is all this left out all the time.
I am more than a little tired of Mr. Millions Gore, buying special privileges because he has the bucks to be one of the biggest contributors personally to the global warming problem....along with his hollywood / entertainment crowd with their private jets and special payments to mr gore's company to let them continue in their ways and try to make everyone else change. I also don't hear anything from anyone about how Pres. Bush's ranch is one of the most energy effecient residences in the country...certainly more effecient that the clintons, gores, edwards, kerrys, kennedys, etc. etc. etc. They don't want to talk about that. Try doing a little research on the global and martian warming and see how much influence the big yellow ball in the sky has to do with it.

I think the major flaw is in giving it the ever-fear-inducing name of “Global Warming”. If they were being honest, they would just call is what it is, Global Climate Change, which happened countless times before and will happen again and again long after you and I and our great-great-great grandkids are here. No matter which way the temperature and climate are affected, it is just climate change and anyone with any knowledge past the 7th grade would laugh at the flip flops made by people wanting to “Save the Planet”. What a very vain and idealistic thing to believe. Don’t get me wrong, folks doing what they can do make their lives more energy efficient is a great thing. I try to do my part not to be an energy glutton. Heck, I drive one of the smallest cars on the road and might be run over by one of those monster SUV’s at any moment! However, I am not naive enough to think that my little contribution to make my life less taxing on the rest of society will save the planet from its natural course. The idea that humans have the capability to Save The Planet is something that mankind can’t do. Our planet it too large for man to have any major control over something like climate change. If we did have any control over such issues like the weather, we would not be bothered by little things like hurricanes, tornados, blizzards, and the like. I think somewhat similar to George Carlin, when the planet is done with us, it will shake us off like dandruff on the shoulder and go on about its day like nothing happened.

You forgot to list Kyle and me in the methane producing list.

The problem with a lot of environmentalists, is they don't actually understand the causes they stand for. A lot of what they regurgitate is what they hear from others, and do little research on their own. To make matters worse, the media sensationalizes the topics and people that believe in those causes take that sensationalism as truth.
The real truth is, YES, the climate is changing. And YES, right now global temperatures are on the rise. And YES, man is contributing to the problem (no matter how small). And YES, after it heats up, mother nature will figure out a way to cool things down, and that is her job, to find balance.
See people are completely focused on the wrong issues because the right ones are far less interesting. It also sounds a lot more hopeless. Natural disasters aside (volcanoes, meteors, etc.), REAL environmentalists...the scientists who are studying the hard data...know that yes, we're contributing to the problem, but it's not simply a matter of who caused it. It's a matter of what will happen if this continues. Well, things will heat up, weather patterns will get more intense (blizzards, hurricanes, tornadoes, tidal waves, etc.). This is mother nature trying to find balance that was lost as things heated up. Eventually the Earth will reach it's boiling point (so to speak), and move into an Ice Age (it's happened before many times, and will happen again). BUT, it's this Ice Age that scientists worry about. According to scientists best guesses, there won't be enough food and fresh water to sustain the world population if an Ice Age occurs. And when (more so than if) that occurs, what kind of world will we be in? Who will stand aside so others may live? Probably not very many. World wars begin again, this time for future survival of groups of people. Kind of an Ice Age "Mad Max" or "Waterworld."

All of that makes a great deal of sense, Kavey. Even the Ice Age thing. And I'm really all for the "not enough food" aspect of this next Ice Age. There are WAY TOO MANY people on this rock. I'm really tired of hearing about starving people in third-world countries. So that will be nice. The Earth will cool off a great deal (I'm tired of the summer heat rash I've been dealing with for 30-plus years) and their will be much fewer people fucking things up. The fitest will survive. Does that mean "the richest"? Maybe, but probably not. I could write pages and pages on why not, but I won't. But I am looking forward to this. Is there any way we can speed things up? Kyle? Andy?

Large yellow orb in the sky...hhhmmm there's a thought.

Wow! I cannot believe that Kyle never commented on this. We have been out too many times listening to people discuss global warming. With a twinkle in his eye and a sneer on his lips, Kyle rips into any and everyone who expresses their derision for gas-guzzling Suv's or plans on going eco-friendly and green! I see where Kyle gets his witty banter!
